[00:00:00] GTS: When someone you love becomes a memory. That memory. Becomes a treasure. Welcome back to 60 something. Everyone. I'm so glad you're here for part two of our legacy video series. Last week, I challenged you to create five videos. Five simple but powerful. Recordings that capture the moments and the lessons that matter most. In your life. Today. We're going to talk about how to finish that challenge and take those videos to the next level. I'll also share a little bit about how you can expand beyond video. And start building a family archive that will last for generations. I know for some of you, the idea of recording yourself, may it felt. Daunting at first, but if you've already started or if you're thinking about starting, let [00:01:00] me remind you this doesn't have to be perfect. These are real heartfelt moments.

[00:01:06] GTS: You're capturing. And your family will cherish them just the way they are. If you've completed some. Or all of the videos. Congratulations, you have already started creating something incredibly valuable. And if you haven't quite finished yet, don't worry. If you haven't even started. Don't worry about that either.

[00:01:31] GTS: You've got time. You've still got time. Here's what I want you to remember as you go through this process. You're not just making videos, you're preserving your voice, your experiences, your life. In a way. That will outlive you. Each video is a, it's a piece of your legacy. Your future grandchildren, great grandchildren and [00:02:00] beyond. We'll be able to see you. Hear you. And connect with the moments. That shaped you. And I'd like to add a suggestion.

[00:02:09] GTS: I thought of, since I posted the prompts for the legacy video challenge, Make one of your videos, something light hearted, a joke. You've always loved a funny story. I made some videos with songs. I used to sing with my mom. And then another was songs I used to sing for my kids. If I can manage it. If it's not too embarrassing. I'll post one of them in the Facebook group to give you some inspiration. I hope. I did finally post a wonderful example of a legacy video last night. Of my husband. Recorded by me over 10 years ago. About how he fell in love with cycling. For me, this video is what it's [00:03:00] all about. Someone is going to see that video of him. When he was 48 years old and learn something important that happened to him. The changed his life. I'll post another example or two in the coming days. I need to follow the suggestions I have in this episode for keeping track of special keepsakes like this. I had to look for that one. I have a family archive with a bunch of stuff in it. But not everything. So I'll be working on that right along with you. One more thing.

[00:03:34] GTS: I'm going to be taking the contents of this challenge, the prompts and the videos. And incorporating them. Into a special area on Facebook, Instagram. And on my new YouTube channel. Which I'll be launching in launching and just a day or two. That's where you'll access at the mini course. More about that at the end of this show. Once you've recorded your five [00:04:00] videos.

[00:04:00] GTS: What comes next? I want to make sure that these aren't just. Random videos that gets saved to your phone. You will lose track of them, mark my words. And we don't want that. Let's instead make them part of your family's lasting history. And here's three simple ways to do that. Save them to the cloud. Use Google drive Dropbox. Or another cloud service to store your videos. This way there'll be backed up and accessible any time. Anywhere. Create a folder for your family. In the cloud. And organize the videos for your family into a dedicated folder. Label them with minus labeled Taylor family archive.

[00:04:52] GTS: And then there are folders inside with. Taylor family legacy photos, Taylor family. [00:05:00] Videos and like that. So your family will always know.

[00:05:07] GTS: Where to find these recordings, you will send them the link. Share them with these loved ones. Don't keep them hidden away. The whole point is to send them to your kids, your grandkids, your closest friends. This is your chance to start conversations, pass down lessons. Have someone remind you of something? Here's what I did. I created a Google drive folder called, as I said, Taylor family archive. In it. I have so far, these files. Taylor family photos. Taylor family documents. Taylor family books. And then. Inside the photos, there must be a video.

[00:05:52] GTS: One to. Inside the photos, both sides of the family.

[00:05:56] GTS: And in the videos, obviously. Videos that I [00:06:00] had converted, actually I don't have my five videos in there yet, but I'm going to put them in. I learned my lesson. Getting this. Uh, challenge together. And then in the documents. I just have things that I've scanned letters from my dad to me, my mom.

[00:06:19] GTS: Things like that. And then in the. Books Taylor family books. That's where I put the cookbook that I made, um, of my mom's recipes. And then I'm going to do one of my own. And then do a family, one where everyone contributes recipes. So that's coming up and that will go in that file. And everybody in my family has a link to that master file of Taylor family archives.

[00:06:44] GTS: And they can get in there anytime they want. And I just want to tell you, I'll probably repeat this again in the mini course, but. You know, I, it, when I put these things up, I didn't get. Really. Any immediate response. [00:07:00] I suppose when I sent the link, it was like, oh, great. Thanks so much. Cool. Like that right. Never. Any feedback whatsoever, like people were actually going into it. Then as, and I'm talking about years as years went by. One of my brothers. Reached out and said, Hey, can you send me the link for the cookbook I want to get in there and get some recipes.

[00:07:22] GTS: That's happened a couple of times once. With one of my kit, maybe a couple of my kids. Then. It was probably at least. 18 months to two years. After I put that up. My brother. I have two. My youngest brother. Got ahold of me. And he said, what the heck is the deal with that guy Silva? So my grant. Father and some friend. And there were a lot of photos with my grandpa and this friend together, and this friend kind of looked like Rudolph [00:08:00] Valentino or something.

[00:08:00] GTS: So we'd never heard of him. Never seen him before. So it was obvious that my brother was looking through the pictures, which, was really gratifying. Then I saw my other brother

[00:08:11] GTS: oh, I think it was last month. And I said, look, I, I'm not looking for a compliment, but I am. Uh, Interested in something.

[00:08:20] GTS: W, how do you feel about these projects of mine? I mean, do you have any interests? I love them. I love them. And this guy is not prone to hyperbole or enthusiasm about too many things. So. I was extremely encouraged. The thing about these projects to keep in mind, so you don't get discouraged. Is there not really. For your brothers or. Your kids or even necessarily your grandkids.

[00:08:51] GTS: It's for the future. Someday. Somebody is going to go looking for videos and photos of you or your mom [00:09:00] or your dad or your grandpa. Because they want to know what they were like. And. For me, I want them to be there. For that day, when somebody wants to know me. And, and I'm not around anymore. So anyway, I'm sorry.

[00:09:17] GTS: I totally segwayed. Okay. As previously promised. If this challenge has inspired you to do more toward building. A robust legacy archive for your family. I've got something special for you. That I've mentioned that I hope you're going to love. Yes. I'm talking about the free mini course in which I'm going to guide you through the next steps in creating a family. So in this mini course, you're going to learn. How do I start organizing your family photos? To create your digital photo archive. How to expand a bit on the video project.

[00:09:57] GTS: We've just started. And [00:10:00] also additional ways to document your family's history through audio recordings, written stories and more. It's all about taking what we've done here. And building on it. So your family's legacy is rich. Organized. And ready to be passed down for generations. So as we wrap up today, I have two things I want you to do. Finish your five videos.

[00:10:26] GTS: Just take a day this week, sit down and record those last few videos. We're talking five minutes or less per video. I promise you. This is going to be one of the most meaningful things you will ever do for yourself, your legacy and your family. And sign up for the mini course.

[00:10:46] GTS: That's Dorothy. She wants them. Yeah, I'm in here. Come and help me. Come on. Okay. Sorry about that. The second thing is sign up for the mini course. It's completely free. And it will [00:11:00] guide you through the next steps in preserving your family's history. The link is in the show notes. So be sure to click through and subscribe on that YouTube channel. And then you'll get notified when the videos go up. Thank you so much for being with me on this journey. Your legacy is so much more than just memories.

[00:11:23] GTS: It stories, the wisdom, all of that love you can pass down. Let's make sure it's preserved for generations to come. I'll see you in the mini course. Oh, and in next week's episode, of course. We'll be changing directions and talking about entrepreneurial pursuits after 60. Can't wait to get into this one with you. But all the good info about Dorothy and my life on there too. Finally. Here's the link to the mini course in the show notes. I'll be rolling it out. A day at a time, starting on Friday, October 18.
