[00:00:00] GTS: You lived as long as you are remembered. That's a Russian proper. Did I say that one before? Well, if I did it's worth repeating. Hi, everyone. It's grace. And welcome back to the 60 something podcast. I'm so excited about today's episode, because I am about to introduce an idea. I came up with that. I believe could change the way we think about preserving our legacy. We all know how easy it is to take videos with our phones.
[00:00:35] GTS: Right. We record special and not so special moments all the time. Vacations, family dinners, birthdays. Snippets, but here's the thing. So many of these videos are just that snippets . Blurry little films of people waving or blowing out candles. Sweet. But not particularly memorable [00:01:00] or impactful. When it comes to really documenting who we are. The stories that shaped us, the lessons we've learned. Most of us. Aren't recording those moments. But we should be. Today, I'm going to explain to you how you can start preserving your legacy in a way that is not only simple, but. Is incredibly meaningful and it all starts with just five videos. I'm going to challenge you. To create. Five videos that capture. The most important moments of your life. The lessons you want to pass on. The stories that define who you are.
[00:01:46] GTS: I want to share something that happened to me that changed me forever. After my dad died and yes, that alone changed me forever. But after that, I went on a quest to find videos of him. I just wanted to [00:02:00] see him a life again, smiling, laughing. Doing his Donald duck impression. I had quite a few old VHS tapes of family video.
[00:02:10] GTS: So I was hopeful. I put. A good amount of money, getting them converted into digital files.
[00:02:19] GTS: And they were probably about a dozen. It took months to get those converted files. And when I finally watched them. My heart sank. There were only a few short moments of him. Like I said, a wave at the camera or opening a Christmas gift. It broke my heart. That I didn't have more than that.
[00:02:45] GTS: And that moment. I realized that we live. In a time. When. We have the ability to create videos at any moment with our phones. But most of us [00:03:00] still aren't recording the important stuff. I'm not talking about just the birthdays, the candles holiday stuff. But. Real.
[00:03:12] GTS: Moment. Stories that show who we really are. The lessons we've learned the memories that mean the most to us. That epiphany inspired by this fruitless search for video of my dad is why. I'm so passionate. About my five videos idea. That I'm about to tell you about.
[00:03:38] GTS: I don't want any of us to look back one day.
[00:03:42] GTS: Like I did. And wish we had more to remember our loved ones by. Or have our family members feel that way about us.
[00:03:51] GTS: We need. Something that reveals more of the essence of who they were. And who we are. [00:04:00] So I'm introducing. The five day. Video challenge.
[00:04:05] GTS: Here's what I'm inviting you to do. OVer the next week. I want you to create five short videos. These aren't fancy. Professionally produced videos. They're just, you.
[00:04:16] GTS: Recording on your phone. The moments that have mattered most to you. And here are my suggestions for what you can talk about in these videos. A favorite memory. What's one of the happiest or most meaningful moments of your life. An important lesson you've learned. What's something life has taught you. That you want future generations to know? The day you met your spouse or a close friend or a loved one. Share the story of how you met someone important in your life and what that moment meant to you. A treasured memory of a parent or grandparent. Tell a story about one of the people who shaped you. Whatever matters most to [00:05:00] you. This could be your values, your beliefs.
[00:05:02] GTS: The thing you want your family to always remember. You record one video each day, based on the prompts I provide. And don't worry if you get behind, you can instead take little time this coming weekend to sit down and record them all at once. It doesn't matter. The point is that by the end of the week, By the end of the challenge, you'll have five videos that capture who you are, what you've experienced, what you want to pass on to future generations. And you'll have accomplished in just five days.
[00:05:39] GTS: What I consider to be the most essential piece of your legacy.
[00:05:47] GTS: If this sounds a little intimidating at first, putting herself on camera and talking about personal moments, don't let that get in your way. I promise once you start, it's going to feel incredibly rewarding. [00:06:00] And here's the beauty of it. These videos don't have to be perfect. They just have to be real. Your kids, your grandkids and future generations will treasure them. More than anything. I'll be giving you tips and tricks, like where to put your phone, to make the videos and how to get good light.
[00:06:21] GTS: And I'll be encouraging you every step of the way. I'll also post a few examples for you to watch and you'll get a free action guide. Just for taking part. We're going to have fun with this. So are you in. You ready to take the challenge with me? Over the next week. I want you to start creating these five videos.
[00:06:43] GTS: All you have to do is. Join my Facebook group. The link is in the show notes. That's where I'll be putting the prompts and the videos of me. Explaining to you. How to get your videos done in five short days, starting tomorrow. So you have [00:07:00] the time to join I'll post daily for five days to help you get those videos done.
[00:07:05] GTS: And then in our next episode, We'll talk about how to put it all together and best practices for making sure these videos. Become a part of your family legacy. Oh, and one more thing. Yes. There's more. I have something exciting coming up. In addition to this challenge, I'm launching a free mini course where I will teach you how to take the first steps in creating a family photo archive.
